Prerequisite: Foundations in Art

This course is designed for students whose primary interest in Art lies in two-dimensional expression and/or students who wish to attend a college that requires a portfolio showing observational drawing skills. Areas of study that may require such a portfolio include fine arts, artchitecture, interior design, fashion, photography and more. Students will gain an understanding of portfolio presentation choices based on their specific area of study.

Along with observational drawing, this class will also include studying light/shade, line, texture, and other various combinations. The course emphasizes the use of color and color theory in several media, including acrylic paint, watercoor, charcoal, pastel and conte. Students will be expected to have a 11x14-inch sketchbook and complete assignments outside of class. Participation in class critiques is expected.
